The company opened its first branch in Japan in 1998, after operating a representative office for 5 years.
Since then, we have provided services to both our local Japanese and international clients, under the name of Gerling-Konzern Allgemeine Versicherungs-AG.
Gerling was known for its unique industry insurance solutions and customized products combined with outstanding service quality.
A New Owner
In 2006, the Talanx Holding bought the Gerling Group, creating the third largest German insurance group, a multi-brand company that operates in 150 countries with various brand names in the financial service sector.
On September 24, 2007, the two specialized industrial insurance companies owned by Talanx, namely HDI Industrie Versicherung AG and Gerling-Konzern Allgemeine Versicherungs-AG, were integrated to create a new company, HDI-Gerling Industrie Versicherung AG.
As HDI did not have a presence in Japan, the integration of the Gerling and HDI brands was straightforward. Gerling’s Japan branch became HDI-Gerling Industrie Versicherung AG, Japan Branch.
The Japan Branch quickly became an integral part of the Group’s international organization, as one of the key strategic branches outside of Germany, underwriting Property, Liability, Engineering and Construction and Marine risks.
Strengthening our International Alignment
On January 8, 2016 the Japan Branch joined all HDI-Gerling Industrie Versicherung AG offices worldwide in aligning its public profile with our growing international focus by bringing the company name and legal status up to date as HDI Global SE.
