Hack{IT}Over hackathon: Creative ideas for future insurance solutions

New technologies provide new possibilities for customised insurance services: Developers, inventors and designers recently gathered in Hannover, Germany, and set their collective minds to work at the Hack{IT}Over event. Hosted by Talanx Group, HDI Global's parent company, the hackathon identified new ways to better serve the evolving needs of our customers around the world. For example, HDI Global and VW Financial Services are looking into one team's idea more closely: "SmartCargo" wants to use tracking devices to facilitate "intelligent" freight insurance that is based on the type of cargo and the specific route.

The event was supported by numerous partners and sponsors, including SAP, VW Financial Services and Precire, who made technology interfaces and anonymised data available to the participants. During the event, some 40 students and 80 professionals ranging in age from 18 to 57 worked intensively on software solutions for speech recognition, workplace efficiency, and the future of mobility.

In addition to "SmartCargo", the winning solutions also included interactive technology that makes legal documents easier to understand for end customers, a solution for matching customers with suitable insurance advisers, and a 'chatbot' for automated claims management in the auto sector. Talanx and its partners awarded cash prizes of between EUR 2,500 and EUR 10,000, along with non-cash and other special prizes.
